We’ve now heard from Eliud Kipchoge following his marathon, and wow he looks fresh – you would be forgiven for thinking he’s just run a casual five-kilometre loop before heading off to brunch, instead of 42.2 kilometres.
He says the Melbourne Marathon was a unique experience, with the opportunity to lap Albert Park and finish at the MCG making it a perfect combination of “three sports in one”.
“On the course, it was really wonderful, I enjoyed seeing people standing, cheering, and shouting my name,” he said on the broadcast.
“It was actually different – running on a beautiful course, but also running on the Formula One track, and above all else, finishing on a cricket ground.”
Kipchoge said he’d enjoyed his week in Melbourne, “mixing with people” and experiencing the city’s culture, and wanted his race record time at Melbourne to be a point of inspiration for the city’s youth.
“I want to tell the younger generation that you need to push yourself … that’s how a life in sport is.”
