The New York Yankees desperately need to add a third baseman ahead of the trade deadline, and a lot of experts predict the Yankees will land Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

Suárez is seemingly the best option on the market at the hot corner. With that level of value, there are bound to be other suitors. One of those suitors could be an NL powerhouse.

FanSided’s Zachary Rotman recently suggested the Chicago Cubs, not the Yankees, could land a deal for Suárez in the coming weeks.

“The Cubs might not need Suarez as much as the Yankees, given how good the rest of their lineup is, but can you imagine adding his bat to that lineup at the one position of need?” Rotman wrote. “A Suarez trade would give the Cubs three of the seven players with at least 25 home runs this season and five of the top 30 qualified position players in WRC+. That’ll play!

“The Cubs need to add pitching, too, but a Suarez trade would make this team genuinely terrifying to face from top to bottom in their lineup. It’d be worthwhile for the Cubs to go all-in, especially in their only guaranteed year with Kyle Tucker.”

With Matt Shaw putting together a horrendous first half of the season, the Cubs need to find a replacement at the hot corner.

Adding Suárez to this loaded lineup might make the Cubs the favorites in the National League. He’s the kind of slugger who can be placed in the middle of a star-studded lineup.

It would take a haul to steal the slugger out from under the Yankees’ nose, but that’s something the Cubs can afford to do. They’re seemingly all-in this year, and a trade for Suárez would put them in position to win the World Series.
