Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted in Copenhagen on Friday evening. The attack occurred in a square in the city’s old town.

According to eyewitnesses, a man broke through the security barriers and rushed towards the prime minister, striking her before being subdued by security personnel. The assailant, whose identity has not yet been released, was swiftly apprehended by police.
