Somerset Dam was closed on Sunday morning while rescue crews searched for the driver of a speedboat that reportedly capsized.

Emergency services were called to the dam, north-west of Brisbane, about 9am, with initial aerial searches subsequently called off.

Police and rescue crews were continuing to search for the driver and the boat, with initial reports suggesting only one person was on board.

The dam, a popular recreation area, is expected to remain closed while the search continues.
