The Digital Earth Platform developed by EGIS (CEO Sung-ho Kim) is capturing global attention.
EGIS is a leading Korean company in Digital Twin technology, gaining widespread recognition through the European VISION-X platform branding. It has also achieved success in GAIA-X via VISION-X.
The key technologies behind EGIS include Digital Twin-based 3D mapping service technology, cloud-based data upload technology, an SDK for developers, geospatial information cloud management technology, big data-based distributed processing technology, and geospatial information-based simulation technology.
The patented technology applied to Digital Earth includes mapping two-dimensional plan data onto a spherical Earth environment in a three-dimensional geospatial system, transforming three-dimensional facilities from a flat surface to a spherical surface, providing dynamic spatial information services, visualizing three-dimensional models by merging three-dimensional objects based on spatial tiles, and storing and retrieving large spatial datasets using HBase.
A comparison test conducted by a public institution confirmed that EGIS’s spatial information engine is 2.6 times faster at loading 3-dimensional tiles and uses significantly less GPU and memory compared to an American Cesium engine. One key factor contributing to this enhancement in Digital Twin functionality is its Wasm-based engine. The global trend toward cloud-based platforms aligns with this approach, which stems from the early adoption of a JavaScript-based engine.
CEO Sung-ho Kim stated, “The rapid growth in DT-related technology has led researchers to request more simulation results,” adding that subscription services will soon be available on the EGIS Academia DT platform, XDOpenLab.
