The Long Island home of a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul was raided by the FBI early Tuesday morning.
Linda Sun, Hochul’s former deputy chief of staff, had her $3.5 million home swept by federal agents. Neither Sun nor her husband Chris Hu have been accused of wrongdoing. They live together in a five-bedroom house located in a gated community on the North Shore of Long Island. Property records show they owned the house until March, when it was transferred to a trust.
The FBI confirmed to Newsweek that it “conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity in Manhasset yesterday,” but declined to offer details about why the home was searched. No arrests were reported. The New York Times reported that the search warrant was obtained by the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn. Newsday also reported that there were two cars parked in the driveway at the time of the raid.
Newsweek reached out to Hochul via email for comment.
Sun’s LinkedIn profile shows she’s worked in state government for nearly 14 years, first beginning her career as the chief of staff to then-assemblywoman Grace Meng, who is now a member of Congress. Sun also worked for former Governor Andrew Cuomo before going to Hochul’s administration.
Sun was appointed deputy chief of staff to Hochul in September 2021, according to a press release from the governor’s office. At the time, she was “the highest appointed Asian American in the administration.”
“Ms. Sun previously served as Deputy Superintendent for Intergovernmental Affairs & Chief Diversity Officer at the NYS Department of Financial Services,” the release stated. “She has also served as Deputy Chief Diversity Officer and Director of Asian American Affairs for the NYS Executive Chamber, Director of External Affairs for Global NY at Empire State Development and Chief of Staff to NYS Assemblymember Grace Meng.”
It continued, “She holds a Master’s degree from Teachers College at Columbia University and a B.A. from Barnard College at Columbia University.”
Sun’s LinkedIn shows that she left Hochul’s team in November 2022, moving to the New York State Department of Labor, where she became the deputy commissioner for strategic business development. In May of 2023, she joined Austin Chen’s congressional campaign as his campaign manager. She left in January, according to the profile.
Her husband operates a liquor store in Flushing, Queens, and incorporated several other businesses over the last 10 years. Reached by phone, Hu declined WNBC’s request for comment.
