A bloody Halloween nightmare in California left two people severely wounded when gunfire erupted outside a local nightclub.
Two people were shot in the Tower District in Fresno at 12:18 a.m. on Sunday as people were celebrating a “zombie crawl” in the area, a Halloween-themed bar crawl.
Police officers dispatched in the area heard nine gunshots fired and immediately located two victims hit with non life-threatening gunshot wounds in front of MIA Nightclub.
The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile and was arrested for attempted murder.
“A third victim who had been injured during the disturbance was located, but this third victim did not require medical treatment. The two initial victims were transported to CRMC and were listed in stable condition,” the Fresno Police Department said.
“Night Detective Unit and Felony Assault Unit detectives determined that a physical altercation had occurred between two groups of three subjects as they walked past each other in front of MIA Nightclub,” the department added on.
During the fight, the suspect took out a firearm and began shooting. The suspect then dropped a 9mm “privately manufactured handgun at the scene” and escaped.
The juvenile was found later that night in the City of Fowler and was taken to the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center after officers “conducted an hour-long surround and call-out.”
Following the shooting, MIA Nightclub urged residents to “stand together, fight back against the violence and take our community back.”
This incident comes after 28-year-old Tyrone Miles was fatally shot outside the same nightclub just around two weeks ago. Security video captured a group of people arguing prior to that attack as well.
A man was also shot in the Tower District in September, resulting in business owners frustrated with the violence.
“To see it at your front door, in a place that’s beloved by the community to see this type of violence happen, it’s very disheartening and discouraging to the city as well as the tower district,” Lewis Everek, owner of Everek Hospitality Group, told ABC 30 following the 28-year-old’s death.
