Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, slammed Democratic Party elites and high-profile individuals in an interview posted to YouTube on Monday.
“George Clooney is not a f****** actor. He is a f******, I don’t know what he is. He’s a brand,” Hunter said during an interview on web series Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan.
Hunter later said that political consultants James Carville “hasn’t won a race in 40 f****** years” and David Axelrod “had one success in his political life and that was Barack Obama and that was because of Barack Obama.
“The Pod Save America guys who were junior f****** speech writers on Barack Obama’s Senate staff who have been dining out on the relationship with him for years, making millions of dollars. The Anita Dunns of the world, who’s made $40 [million], $50 million off the Democratic Party, they’re all going to insert their judgment over a man who has figured out, unlike anybody else, how to get elected to the United States Senate over seven times, how to pass more legislation than any president in history, how to have a better midterm election than anyone in history and how to garner more votes than any president that has ever run.”
Hunter also mentioned CNN’s Jake Tapper: “What influence does Jake Tapper have over anything? He has the smallest audience on cable news.”
Why It Matters
Hunter’s comments mentioned several people who called on then-President Biden to step out of the 2024 presidential race over concerns about his age and fitness.
Clooney, who has described himself as a “lifelong Democrat,” wrote an op-ed for The New York Times in July 2024 titled “I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.” Carville also wrote an op-ed for The New York Times that month titled “Biden Won’t Win. Democrats Need a Plan. Here’s One.”
What To Know
Axelrod called on then-President Biden to step down in a CNN op-ed, writing: “The stakes are as great as Biden describes. And if he believes it, as I think he does, he will eventually do what duty and love of country requires, and step aside.”
Pod Save America co-host Jon Lovett discussed how the podcast approached then-President Biden’s age in a May appearance on The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.
“I never wanted to be dishonest about what we were seeing. And by the way, we were getting s***about talking about Joe Biden not doing enough to overcome the questions around his age long before he dropped out,” Lovett said.
Tapper co-authored a book about efforts to allegedly cover up then-President Biden’s mental decline ahead of the election.
Dunn was a senior adviser to then-President Biden and never called on him to step out of the race, USA TODAY reported.
Hunter Biden was convicted of three felony charges for federal gun violations in June 2024. He also pleaded guilty to nine charges in a federal tax case later that year.
Then-President Biden issued a full and unconditional pardon for his son in December 2024.
What People Are Saying
Hunter Biden, in an interview on web series Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan: “What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f****** life to the service of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full-page ad in the f****** New York Times to undermine the president?”
George Clooney, in a 2024 op-ed for The New York Times: “I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced. But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time.”
