Kacie McIntosh certainly caught a lot of flak during the Love Is Blind season 9 reunion — but at least one of her castmates has her back.
“My girl Kacie did a lot of things wrong — I wouldn’t even say wrong — but poor girl is getting some heat,” Megan “Sparkle Megan” Walerius said on the Thursday, October 30, episode of the “What’s the Reality” podcast. “I felt for her because she just became, kind of, the easy target.”
Kacie, 34, appeared at the Wednesday, October 29, reunion special to rehash her broken engagement to Patrick Suzuki — and get into yet another back-and-forth about who is entitled to keep the production-provided sparkler. After Kacie and Patrick cleared the air, the hairstylist revealed that she briefly dated fellow contestant Joe Ferrucci for a “month and a half” after he broke up with fiancée Madison Maidenberg.
“I didn’t realize [that] she was intertwined in everyone’s story somehow,” Megan, 35, recalled on Thursday’s podcast episode. “Everybody just seemed to have some tension still and a little fire.”
She continued, “Some of it was hard to watch, and I admire Patrick saying, ‘Take some accountability, say you’re sorry [and] let’s move on.’ But, it’s easier said than done to do that.”
During the reunion, Kacie and Joe, 29, defended their post-pod fling, clarifying they didn’t explore a romantic connection until they were both single. Madison, 28, however, believed otherwise and claimed their brief romance “affected [her] engagement.”
“The night of wedding dress and tux fittings, we had all gone out. I’m standing there with a wedding ring on, telling your groomsman how much I love you,” Madison alleged. “I look over, Kacie has two paws on Joe’s chest. In your words that night, you said, ‘Kacie was giving me googly eyes.’ Then, the next night, we break up.”
Both Kacie and Joe subsequently shut down Madison’s accusations of relationship “overlap.” The drama then appeared to reach a fever pitch when the trio, as well as Joe’s new girlfriend, Averee Madison, all attended costar Mike Brockway’s pool party that summer.
During the bash, Madison claimed that Kacie cried over her own breakup with Joe and suggested that the two women were “Eskimo sisters.” Kacie has since asserted that her comment was meant in jest.
Joe, for his part, denied that he was in a relationship with Averee, who did not appear on Love Is Blind, at the time.
“[Averee and I] were not dating at the time,” Joe quipped. “Don’t get me in trouble at home. No, [and] my relationship now was rocky for the first three months, and she didn’t want to date me. There was a lot of breaking up, coming back together, breaking up, and we were off [in] October as well, then we got back together and started dating in November.”
As for Megan, she removed herself from the drama and is focused on her new relationship and baby. The wellness entrepreneur announced during the reunion that she welcomed her first child, son Brooks, two months before the reunion taping with new boyfriend Paul Wegman.
“Paul and I got introduced through a mutual friend, probably five months after Jordan [Keltner] and I ended things. His friend introduced us, and we just immediately hit it off,” Megan recalled on Thursday. “We’ve had our ups and downs, for sure. I’m not going to say it’s all been rainbows and butterflies, but we have a beautiful little boy now.”
