Gary Leech, club coach of the nearby Knox City Tennis Club, reported that a car mounted the footpath and drove into the Coleman Road Reserve Playground, hitting three people.

“It looks like the car has gone into the playground and hit three people who were on the footpath,” he said.

“I heard a lot of ambulance and fire and police, and the police helicopter as well.”

Leech said a tent has been set up at the scene.

Coleman Road has been closed in both directions between Stud Road and Lewis Road, due to the collision. Drivers are instead advised to use Boronia Road or the Burwood Highway.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed, “paramedics are on scene and their priority is with their patients.”

“An update will be provided as information becomes available.”

Ann, a caller to radio station 3AW, said a car had mounted the footpath, hitting the people at “high speed”.

“It’s just a suburban street … there’s four ambulances there, police galore, and all the roads are blocked off. It’s quite horrendous,” she said.

“I did not see it, but a neighbour of mine was there. Then the car took off, down the park near the playground…”

They believe that several adults and a child were involved.

Ambulance Victoria said it responded to reports of an incident in Wantirna South around 12.20pm.

“Paramedics are on scene and their priority is with their patients. An update will be provided as information becomes available,” it said in a statement.
