A policeman and a member of the public have suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds during an altercation in Brisbane’s inner-south on Friday morning.
Police reported they were initially called to a home in Tamar Street at Annerley at 9.13am following reports of a disturbance.
“Upon arrival, an altercation has occurred, and has resulted in a police officer and a male person being shot,” said a Queensland Police spokeswoman.
A witness reported hearing three or four shots in the street, which backs on to a rail line where work has been occurring.
Paramedics arrived on-scene about 9.30am, and found both men with life-threatening injuries. The officer, a constable, is understood to have suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
The two were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Police declared a crime scene following the incident, and the street remained closed to the public about 10am on Friday.
Brisbane Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman was due to address the media later on Friday.
