Homicide detectives are investigating the death of an eight-month-old girl after she was found unresponsive in a home in Ballarat.
Police said an infant child was found unresponsive in a home in Redan, in Ballarat’s south, about 1pm on Sunday.
The girl was taken to hospital after emergency services performed CPR.
“She was later transferred to a Melbourne hospital where she died today,” a police spokesperson said.
A 23-year-old man was released from police custody after he was taken in and interviewed by detectives.
“The exact circumstances are yet to be determined and detectives from the homicide squad will investigate,” police said.
