A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a shark in Georgia after he and his pals reeled it in while fishing — only for it to sink its teeth into his thigh as they tried to unhook it, according to reports.
The teen was on a boat with two others and his dad near Ossabaw Island, about 20 miles south of Savannah, on Wednesday when he was bitten by the nearly six-foot marine predator, a horrified witness told WTOC.
“I was sitting right here reading a book on the back of the boat and we saw a boat coming up and we could tell from a distance that there was trauma going on,” boater Terry Tatum said, adding that the boat docked in front of her and the child’s father was frantically seeking help.
“I went to the boat and saw three teenagers on the boat and a traumatic scene,” she continued.
“They told me that they were fishing. They caught a large shark, five of six feet, and tried to unhook it and the shark latched onto the young man’s right thigh and I got the first aid kit and assisted.”
The boy was bitten on the upper thigh, according to dispatch audio from a 3:51 p.m. call obtained by WJCL.
The child was rushed to a local hospital, according to WSAV, and his condition is unknown at this time.
