After negotiations failed last Friday, authorities have filed a bid to block protesters planning to march across the Story Bridge this Friday, with the Brisbane City Council slamming the planned action in a statement today.
“The cycling activists … plan to proceed with their illegal protest at 8am on Friday despite concerns raised by Queensland police and Brisbane City Council,” the statement read.
“They plan to hold Brisbane commuters to ransom and cause chaos, just like Extinction Rebellion did a few years ago.”
Following a two-hour mediation meeting between protest organiser Kathryn Good and lawyers representing the council and police, the authorities said they intended to file a court order that would stop the march from going ahead.
The council and police confirmed they would file the order on Tuesday, with a hearing time set for 9am tomorrow.

Good said it was “factually untrue” and “absolutely outrageous” on the council’s part to call the planned protest illegal.
She said the protest would remain legal until the court ruled against the planned action, and said she expected to comply with the court’s decision.
“It’s really disappointing … we have tried to engage in good faith with Queensland police and the Brisbane City Council,” Good said.
She also denied any affiliation with climate protest group Extinction Rebellion, or any political body.
