A woman has gone viral on social media after sharing the moment she showed her husband and sons her eyebrow transformation for the first time.
Natalie Gruendl, 38, recently treated her eyebrows to the full shebang—getting them waxed, tinted and laminated—and her boys were “very unsure about it,” according to an Instagram video documenting her family’s reaction, with even the baby looking surprised.
“My husband and sons did not like them at first,” the mom of four told Newsweek. “I’m so glad I filmed their reaction because they were shocked and not afraid to let me know that it was too different.”
Gruendl posted the clip on February 13, and it has since racked up more than 3 million views and 8,000 likes. During the video, her husband says her eyebrows are “way too dark” and “so jarring.” One son says it’s “too creepy,” while a younger son says her “eyeballs” look different and that he doesn’t like it.
At the end of the video, viewers finally see Gruendl’s eyebrows, but many found the reveal anticlimactic. While they were noticeably darker, they hardly deserved the laughter they received from her family, commenters said.
Gruendl, who runs her own recipe website, Tastes Lovely, lives in Boise, Idaho. She said she was happy with the $85 treatment and that her family’s reaction made her realize something deeper.
She told Newsweek, “It shows how much you are depended on as the parent, and how small changes can feel like such a big deal to kids and your spouse, which I get.”
Gruendl added: “Before the eyebrow technician showed me my eyebrows, she warned me that it would be shocking to see because they’re extra dark the first day, and I may not like them at first sight.
“Plus, the contrast of them being darker and more noticeable than they were before for a blonde like me.”
Gruendl said she was also surprised by the shade, but after two days, she warmed to them and would get them done again.
She captioned the clip: “It’s OK to laugh at this with me. I actually really like them! I have an actual eyebrow arch now?! Obsessed. I think these boys don’t understand beauty.”
Many viewers agreed with her statement, with one writing: “Ok…those boys know nothing. I think they look great!”
“Seriously, the women on here, we love it,” another said. “I honestly thought you were going to show us a giant black unibrow. They look good!”
A user added, “They look so good! I was so scared based on their reactions, but it just shows—boys don’t know!”
